Social Development
At the MMID, we believe that building a strong and thriving community goes beyond service delivery — it’s about caring for the people who call our area home. Our social development initiatives are centred on uplifting the vulnerable, empowering the youth, and supporting those who make a difference within the Montague Gardens–Marconi Beam community.
The MMID proudly supports two local soup kitchens that provide daily meals to the elderly, disadvantaged individuals, and children in and around our district. We also make a monthly contribution to Janet’s Junction, an after-school programme that offers children a safe space to learn, play, and develop essential computer skills. This initiative helps keep children off the streets, away from gang influence, and encourages them to stay in school and focus on their futures.
In addition, the MMID sponsors local children’s soccer teams, assisting with new uniforms, boots, and soccer balls — promoting healthy, active lifestyles and the values of teamwork and discipline. Each year, we also partner with Janet’s Junction on Mandela Day, donating groceries and spending our 67 minutes making sandwiches for those in need.
We are equally proud to support the local Community Medics, who assist us with prompt and professional medical responses throughout the Montague Gardens–Marconi Beam area.
Here at the MMID, we look after our community — because we believe that a safer, cleaner, and more caring environment starts with compassion, collaboration, and community spirit.
